Member Spotlight: Willie Tay

Willie is the General Manager of the Regency Art Hotel and Vice President of the Macau Hotel Association.

He was born in Singapore and is the eldest of six children. Willie’s 40+ years in the Hospitality and Tourism industry began after national service, when he decided that the world of hotels was for him.

Starting at the Hilton International Singapore in various food and beverage roles, after 10 years he moved to the Shangri-La group and in the next 15 years held various management positions in different locations including Beijing, Shenzhen, Qingdao and Singapore.

After leaving the Shangri-la group, Willie opened a restaurant in the Shenzhen World Trade Centre before returning to join the opening team of the Crowne Plaza Spa & Beach Resort in Hainan and then moving to Zhuhai for a position in a hotel undergoing a major refit.

Willie came to Macau in 2006 to join the Regency Art Hotel in Taipa and has seen many changes in Macau and especially the Taipa landscape since then.

During these unprecedented times, the Regency Art Hotel has been an integral part of the Macau government Covid-19 hotel quarantine program for residents returning home to Macau from overseas.

Willie is the proud father to three children and two grandchildren and currently his wife is based in Singapore with the youngest still attending school there.
