Australian Chamber of Commerce (AustCham) Macau Chairman Billy Chan has expressed his thoughts on China’s recent announcement on the lifting of Australian wine tariffs, calling the move an “fantastic” news.
“It is fantastic news just before Easter that we will once again see our high-quality Australian wines gracing the tables of Chinese customers and consumers,” he said recently. “Our wine production is renowned for its exceptional quality and the Chinese market holds a strong affinity for our offerings.”
He added: “The lifting of tariffs imposed three years ago is truly exciting news for our wine producers, growers and traders, particularly for our Australian chamber members in the wine trade, facilitating commerce between China and Australia. We are excited by this development as it will significantly bolster trade relations between the two nations and further strengthen the ties between our chamber and its stakeholders.”
Chan also said this change is worth over US$1 billion in yearly wine trade into the mainland Chinese market.
Beijing imposed taxes of more than 200 per cent in 2020 targeting Australian exports, including coal, barley, timber and lobsters, according to a report by BBC.
