Environmentally friendly infrastructure development and design are key areas to deepen ties between Australia and Macau, representatives from the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) in China told MNA.
A delegation of Austrade officers stationed across China visited Macau on Thursday to participate in the International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum (IIICF), being held in the SAR.
“We think there’s a lot Australia can do with Macau in terms of green building and design collaborations towards net zero,” said Daniela Assis, Trade and Investment Commissioner based at the Australian Embassy in Beijing.
Ms. Assis and Rob Donelly, the new Australia Senior Trade Commissioner and Deputy Consul General in Hong Kong and Macau, expressed optimism regarding future collaborations with the SAR in an interview on the sidelines of a luncheon hosted by the Australian Chamber of Commerce in Macau (AustCham Macau).
With Macau doubling down on the internationalisation of its core tourism industry, Mr. Donelly sees plenty of potential for Australian companies and professionals to contribute to the city’s development. “There is potential for Australian businesses in design and infrastructure development, as Australia is very strong in design and architecture services.” These players “can work closely with businesses in Macau to produce some products that will be really interesting for tourists,” he added.
Rob Donelly replaced Shannon Powell, who completed her four-year term last month.
Relations between China and Australia are on a positive track following high-level visits and the lifting of trade barriers, namely Chinese Premier Li Qiang’s visit to Australia earlier this week.
“Everyone is really excited. It’s really positive, the visit by Premier Li,” Daniela Assis stressed.
