We had the great pleasure of Michelle Garnaut AO, CEO and Founder of the M Restaurant Group as our Power Hour Speaker in September.

Michelle is a highly awarded and world renowned restaurateur for her M on the Fringe – Hong Kong, M On The Bund – Shanghai and M Capital – Beijing.

Michelle shared with us her journey in the culinary world and regaled us with stories of her early days as waitress, her first steps as a chef and then embarking on the demands and challenges as a women opening a western restaurant in Hong Kong in 1989 and then onto Shanghai in 1999. Difficult customers were handled courteously and professionally, but she did entertain us with one very funny story… which we can’t repeat here.

Covid lockdowns and restrictions in China forced Michelle and her team to make the difficult and sad decision to close the hugely successful M on Bund earlier this year after 23 years.

The following day Michelle was flying Shanghai to meet up with old friends, explore business opportunities and have some fun.
